Magic!

Two nights ago the power goes out, briefly.

It's amazing what can happen in a few quick minutes.

When the power comes back up, there's still one thing that doesn't: my computer. As I sit and numbly watch the blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner of the screen, I wanna curs-or-something myself... ; )

So I'm very frustrated and I'm ready to throw the thing out the window -- better it drown in the torrential rain-fall than me, right? (Hey, you in California. Shush! Besides, I kinda like the rain. Okay, maybe not so much in the summer. Okay, maybe not so much anytime. But at least everything's green still, and I like that at least! So THERE!)

Well, I eventually give up searching - in vain! - for the magic button on my computer (cuz there isn't one, right?) and pop some eggos in the toaster for the girls. While I'm waiting for those to finish, I lean against the counter and watch as Hannah hops up on a chair and pounds away at the keyboard. I no longer care to protect it. Actually, I'm loving it. Take that! I think as she continues to bang like crazy. Go girl, go! She's like a mad scientist, her hands flying this way and that, swirling through the air, slamming back down on the keys. Each hit is loudly startling. Thwack, thwack, thwack! What a puppeteer! A master craftsman. A creative genius with a flare for carefree dramatics. And then?

Lo and behold! My computer begins to reboot. But it's a fluke - it has to be. I know it will stop any second and that darn cursor will reappear to taunt me. So I wait. And wait. But the seconds pass and the thing keeps going. And then? The login screen.

Eureka!

But wait. What the-- ???

How come I couldn't do that? Well...as I said before on this blog and I'm sure I'll say again (and again and again), some things just can't be explained, I guess.

So, lucky for you, I have a computer still. Lucky for me, I've got Hannah. :)
